We (2 adults, 2 kids ages 11/13) will be driving back from Kardamyli the day before our flight, dropping off our car, and leaving on an 11:30am flight the next morning for a transatlantic return. Presumably we will need to be at the airport at 9am. I have read about the Avra Hotel in Rafini and the Hotel Sofitel on this forum, but nothing too recent.
Any updated recommendations would be much appreciated!
The Sofital is right at the airport. Its a good hotel and expensive. We have chosen to stay there when we arrived in the early evening and had an early flight next morning. That extra 45 minutes of sleep can be worth it versus a long taxi ride in the early morning.
We have stayed at Avra and will again next month. It has a shuttle service about 25 minutes as I recall. Its a nice hotel right at Rafina ferry port. It has great views of the port and the airport flight path is aimed directly over the hotel. Lots of fun watching the aircraft take off. Just far enough away so its not aircraft Noisy. It is close to the central square so easy for evening dining. There is also a nearby beach at Avra. We choose Avra when there is time to put in between flights.
Another decent option is Peris Hotel. Its basically an overnight option about 15 minute shuttle trip from the airport. We have stayed there several times but really just treat it like a place to sleep close to the airport.
Based on your timing I would think Avra will give you the best experience and will keep the kids entertained.
As I do not know the Pegis Hotel I would say, like stanbr, that the Avra Hotel is a much better choice than the Sofitel because:
1/ Avra hotel is at least half the price
2/ The Avra shuttle service is free
3/ If you return the car at the airport you can take the Avra shuttle which will take you to the hotel, you will also take it the next day to return to the airport.
4/ The Rafina port area is much nicer than the airport view you get from the Sofitel (and you could have a last seaview from the room).
5/ By staying in Rafina the evening before your departure you will have a choice of restaurants for dinner that you will not have at the Sofitel
The only advantage of the Sofitel is that you cross the avenue and you are in the airport.
An advantage that you will have paid in the end at least $100 (to walk 50 meters)
