We're trying to decide among three possible choices for a one-night hotel stay: the Plaka Hotel, the Herodion, and the Electra Metropolis Athens. The last one is a good bit more expensive, so we're mainly looking a the first two (unless someone has a compelling argument for the Electra!). Both the Herodion and Plaka have great views of the Acropolis from rooftop terraces---this sounds wonderful! We appreciate any suggestions you may have.
See my reply on Fodors.
We stayed at Plaka a few years ago and loved it. Rooftop view was great and the hotel has a great staff. There are lots of restaurants nearby and I can recommend Scholaria--we liked it enough to dine there twice. I should add that breakfast was included and was a very nice buffet.
Another vote for the Plaka. Convenient, moderate rates and lots of decent restaurants close by. We had dinner one night at one and had a chat with the owner who spoke perfect English with an Australian accent, having spent many years in Sydney. Don't remember the food but I remember the owner.
Many thanks! We decided to stay at the Plaka for the one night--love the view from their rooftop!
Well, I got to the party late, but I'll just say you wouldn't have gone wrong with the Herodion. We stayed there twice and liked it a lot, good location, comfortable rooms, good breakfast, very good roof deck. I don't know the Plaka so can't compare. Sounds like a win-win proposition.
