Hotel Hera in Athens for the RS tour

Our Hotel in Athens next September is the Hotel Hera. Does anyone know if RS gets us rooms facing the Acropolis? Are there Balconies? We had such nice room while on the Best of Switzerland.

Why not ask the RS tour office? We don't have any particular influence with them .. YOU do, you gave them your deposit ... so email them and ask. (Those who ask, get).

Check out the reviews and photos about this hotel on Google:

There is a review that mentions a view of the Acropolis from a suite. The others only talk about a view from the rooftop bar/restaurant.

Which seems logical. In my opinion, given the height of the hotel building and the photos, only a few rooms (probably 4) on the top floor on the west side could have a balcony with a view of the Acropolis.

Every Rick Steves tour I've been on has used a variety of rooms--there generally aren't enough rooms in a particular category. Sometimes you get a great room and sometimes you get a good room.

It is the luck of the draw. Literally. If this is the first hotel on your tour, one strategy that has worked for me in the past on other tours was to pay for/book a view room at the hotel pre-tour and ask if I could remain in the same room. So far it has worked.

I don’t recall anyone in our group saying their room had a view. Ours was on the street side, second floor, but didn’t directly face the Acropolis, and no balcony. The rooftop bar had the best view. The hotel is a little bit down the street with other buildings beside and across from it , so I’m guessing only a few rooms higher up, on the one corner would have a good view. Maybe check their website for photos, they may have a few rooms with a balcony, and a good view. I doubt RS books them, but maybe if you arrive in advance of the tour they will let you keep it.

thanks everyone for your comments. Now I just have to decide how many days to arrive before the tour. I checked google earth and the hotel is in a great location.

I'll take a great location to a view from the room any day! How much time will you spend in the room, anyway. Especially on a busy tour.
Have a great trip!

We have stayed at hotel hera twice. We paid more for an acropolis view room on the 4th floor. The first time we stayed there aRick steves group was there. I doubt that the Rick Steves rooms on the lower floors have acropolis views. What you can do is book and pay for an acropolis view room pre tour. Then instead of moving to your cheaper tour room, ask how much extra to stay in the better room and pay the difference. We did that on one tour..
also, it did have a balcony.

We stayed at this hotel independently and reserved an Acroplis view room. While we liked the hotel and especially the location, the view was not much and not worth the extra cost. I do like view room facing mountains etc,but this was underwhelming. Perhaps there are rooms with better views than the one we had but if I were to stay again I wouldn't spring for it.
