Looking for recommendations for a 1 night stay following 2 weeks in Greece. We are looking for a hotel close to Athens airport that offers a free shuttle. Thanks so much.
I stayed at the Sofitel at the airport -- no shuttle involved just a crosswalk.
Sofatil is extremely convenient if you have one of those 6am flights. However it is expensive. We often use Peris Hotel. It has a free shuttle and breakfast included and is no more than 15 minutes from the airport. Its about a third of the price of the Sofital. They do charge a fee if you use their shuttle after midnight and before 6am.
THere is also a new option with free shuttle about a 25 minute ride from the Airport... Hotel Avra in Rafina... about the same price as Hotel Peris... it looks out on a beach & has a cafe/restaurant on premises; was renovated last winter. They run a shuttle all night -- on Advance arrangement... The only deal is, you make the shuttle reservation at same time as you book your room, so that if u want transport to/from airport in the wee hours, they'll know in advance. I haven't stayed there, but have recommended to several people that they try it, and they reported back that it was just fine.
Janet is right that the Avra in Rafina is a good bet. We use it a couple of times a year, although we haven’t been since the refurbishment.
We’ve also stayed in the Peris which was fine but a bit in the middle of nowhere. There’s one taverna five minutes away but that’s it. OK if you’re just there to sleep but not so good if you have an evening there.
The advantage of the Avra is that you are two minutes away from Rafina town square which has a good range of eating places and a lively Greek atmosphere.
There’s also a Holiday Inn about 15 minutes away on Attica Avenue, the main road into the airport. I’ve never stayed there but you pass it on the bus on the way in.

Another recommendation for the Sofitel Athens Airport Hotel. We have stayed there twice. It is right across the street from the airport and very convenient to walk to the airport. The Sofitel has a great ground floor restaurant called Mesoghaia which we enjoyed for dinner and breakfast. There is also a 9th floor rooftop area for drinks and snacks. If you have time at the airport, visit the small museum which shows what was excavated when the airport was built. It is fascinating.
Yes I should have included Arva in Rafina. We used it in October this year. Its lovely and we did enjoy being in the center of the town. The shuttle bus was full but I did notice they had about three shuttles all different sizes. You have to pre book the shuttle. We arrived in the late afternoon so we wanted a town atmosphere. By the way Arva was the second most expensive hotel we used in a month in Greece at about 110 euros. Peris was 80 and Sofitel was pushing 200 euros.
And thanks for mentioning Peris hotel is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. It is actually in the outskirts of a village but it appears to be rather remote. We used Peris on our arrival at 10 PM so we just went straight to bed. We didn't use Peris at the end of the trip because of our late afternoon arrival.
I should have remembered that Avra boosted its rate after last year's renovation... calculating its rates vs Peris, u'd need to consider whether you need shuttle services between 12 midnight & 6 am. Regarding Holiday inn, I remember checking its rates a couple of years ago, and in May it was €129 a double... advertised a shuttle service, but someone advised me to be sure how frequent it is, especially in wee hours; u do need to book it in advance.
No free shuttle but I booked Nesto Athens Airport Apartment for one night in early April 2020. Rate is 69€. We arrive from Canada too late to catch a flight to Naxos and couldn't stomach paying 200€ ($320 CDN) at the Sofitel despite its very nice convenience.
The St Thomas b&b is also very nice. They will pick you up & drop you off at airport for small fee. You can walk to a nearby taverna or order food in & eat by the pool.
After almost a month in Greece a couple years ago, we spent our last night at the recommended Sofitiel. We booked months in advance and felt the early discounted fee was worth it. The room was very comfortable, well appointed, & the breakfast was wonderful. After a long journey it gave us peace of mind to just walk across to the terminal.
