Hi
We’re planning our Honeymoon to Greece in first week of March. We’re flying back from Athens on 8th March.
We really wish to visit Santorini. Please suggest a nice itinerary for honeymooners.
On what date and at what time are you scheduled to arrive in Greece? Will you be flying in from the US/Canada, or from somewhere closer?
At what time do you depart on March 8?
We’re flying from Delhi, India on 28th February night. And our flight from Athens to Delhi is at 1:00 PM on 8th March.
Sorry, I don’t want to put a damper on your honeymoon, but have you looked at the weather forecast for Greece in February/March? It will be cool and wet, most likely and it’s very off season.
See websites such as Skyscanner for flight options between Athens and Santorini for your particular dates. These two places will fill a week.
Santorini is a very good destination in Greece. You can also add some more islands to visit Kythnos, Milos, Naxos, Paros.
You can rent a boat from Athens and visit Mykonos, Paros, Santorini, Milos and then back to Athens. You can find very good prices in March, but the weather for swimming in March is not that good. https://www.alldaycruise.net they have boats for rent and take care of the people.
Another option is to get a ferry from Piraeus port to Santorini https://www.bluestarferries.com the tickets is about 80-10 euro for both sides.
Santorini is a very nice island, doesn't have a nice beach but you will see the best sunset and view.
I would advise 4-5 days is more than enough to stay there.
The OP hasn't been back. I suspect she's either abandoned her plan (which also included spending most of her time in Italy) or didn't like our advice and has abandoned the forum.
Here's hoping she and her husband have a great honeymoon, whatever they do.
I really value all the suggestions. But we’re in a bit of a pickle. I really wanted to enjoy beaches and pools but that doesn’t look plausible. So we might switch to another europian country.
If you haven’t bought tickets, I would suggest waiting until May.
You aren’t going to find beaches and pools that you can enjoy in any European country in March.
Actually, the water's pretty cold until at least mid-May. There are lots of great possibilities in Italy, including some nice beaches if you want the views and the walks, fully clothed.
Every year we get inquiries from India from couples who are having weddings from Late November thru March, too many of whom have booked flights or sent deposits for a "sunny honeymoon" on what they think will be a warm Greek beach. All too often they have only "researched" on their smart-phones, looking at photographs, never checking facts about average temps & rainfall. Greece and all of Europe are having WINTER weather at these times. Fortunately aurora, it sounds as if you have not yet put down money for flights or hotels ... you'll need to search for beachy places elsewhere .... if you don't care for Thailand & surrounding countries, have you considered New Zealand? https://www.travelandleisure.com/travel-tips/best-time-to-visit-new-zealand
