Hiring a driver in Greece on the mainland

We will need a driver on the mainland for 5 days. We do not want to drive or rent a car. Besides the usual tour companies, which are really expensive, can someone suggest how to go about finding a driver that we can trust ? Has anyone hired a driver in Greece?

Hi Mr K,
Take a look at Matt Barrett's website on Greece, its excellent. He knows of several reputable drivers that he has known and recommended for years. The website itself offers a plethora of information, and he's quite a humorous writer. Hope this helps.

When y ou say that tour companies are "really expensive, " what do you mean by that?? A taxi, or car for hire, cannot really make a living unless he charges you $300-400 per day, and then the gas, and then his meals & lodging. And in effect, you are hiring him for 24 hours... because, when he's thru driving you for the day, he cannot go home, because you're off somewhere in the mountains, or the Peloponnese peninsula.

I invite you to look at this 2-day tour -- one of the favorites I recommend http://www.chatours.gr/tours.php?exc=8&exccat=1 It picks you up in athens, takes you over the corinth canal, with a stop for photography. Then on to the Peloponnese, with a tour of the famous Iliad-era fortress, MYCENAE. Then to NAFPLIO/NAUPLIA, where you are free the whole afternoon, evening and next morning to explore this historic and beautiful city (with 2 superb museums). The next late morning the group goes to Epidaurus for a tour & visit to its famous theatre, then back to Athens. I approve this tour because it allows people so much welcome free time, not rushing to get to yet another place. And the price (covering the trip, the licensed guide/escort and your room/double occupancy) is €176 per per person = €88 per day, or €176 for the 2 of you per day. I DEFY anyone to find a car & driver for that price.

Without telling what you expect to pay, keanu, you cannot expect people to come up with the answer you want.
