Hey y’all, we are trying to find the best way to get from Heraklion port to our hotel in Chania. We get into the port at 17:40. We checked with our hotel and they do not offer a shuttle service and we aren’t renting a car since we are only doing 1.75 full days in Chania. It’s too late to change destinations for us as we have a non refundable flight from Chania to Athens.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Not great planning. That said have you tried asking the airline to switch departure cities? They might make this consideration. I'm surprised there is even "non-refundable" tickets anymore that you cannot at least apply the value to a new ticket. Otherwise, bus which run frequently or hire a taxi for approx. 200E.

As Badger said there are regular buses hourly from Heraklion to Chania. Pick up a taxi at the airport and have him drop you off at the KTEL bus station, The bus trip is just over two hours and is very reasonably priced.
The bus station in Chania is in the new town about a 10 minute walk into Old town and harbopur. Hopefully you booked your hotel in the old town.
Even jet lagged walking in the old town to the harbour will invigorating you, its like a energy generating tonic.
