Last 3 nights on Crete we'll move from Chania to Heraklion.
Is it important to stay in the city? Or will renting a house 5 or 10 kilometers out of town be just as wonderful? We will have a rental car if we need one.
Is there a recommended neighbourhood?

A better idea would to limit your stay in Heraklion to one night. Use those extra days to visit Rethymnon or stay in Chania longer, perhaps going down to the southern coast to Loutro.

Or last 3 nights in Rethymnon - is that your suggestion?
Is Heraklion is not worth moving to from Chania?
I'm open to suggestions if people think we will regret moving to Heraklion for 3 nights.
