Help with Travel to Greece

We are traveling to Santorini on 5/15 coming from the US. Our flight from the US first goes to Copenhagen, then to Athens, before our flight to Santorini. When we get to Athens at 6:50pm our flight to Santorini is at 8:30pm.

I am unsure about the customs process despite reading various articles. Do we go through customs/passport control in Copenhagen or in Athens? I know they are both Schengen countries, so this is where I am confused.

My concern is that the time between the flight from Athens and Santorini is only 1 hour and 40m. If we are required to go through customs in Athens, get our luggage, and then check into our domestic flight from Athens to Santorini, it will not be enough time.

I would appreciate any tips or insight that anyone has as to this travel dilemma!

You go through passport control in Copenhagen not Athens.

Are you on a single ticket? If so, you should be fine. You will not have to check in or collect your luggage in Athens.

Passport control will take place in Copenhagen. Then, except for security checks upon boarding, you won't have to go through any other passport control in Denmark or upon arrival in Greece.

Regarding customs control in Athens, simply exit through the "nothing to declare" gate. That's it.

I'm not sure how you booked or plan to book your flights. Note that on the Aegean website, you can book the Copenhagen → Santorini flight via ATH with a single ticket (I checked). So if you can, do it. Your checked baggage will be delivered in Santorini.

I recently flew to Athens from the Schengen area with a 35-minute connection in Athens to catch another flight to Greece (It was originally supposed to be a 1 hour 50 minute connection). It went perfectly. Our checked baggage arrived safely at its final destination.

If you have two separate tickets, it's doable but it will be very tight.
