We are signed up for the RS Best of Greece tour which ends on April 13. We have 5 days, 4 nights after to visit an island or two. So far we are thinking about Santorini and Crete. Need help figuring out the logistics. There are plenty of flights from Athens to either island as well as between the islands. We can also take a Sea Jets ferry between Heraklion and Santorini or vis versa but there is only one ferry per day at that time of year. Might there be more as the date approaches, and if not should we stay on the safe side and plan to fly? If we do indeed decide to got to both islands, does it matter much which one we go to first? Checking cruisedig.com there are no cruises scheduled to dock in either port in Crete April 13-17 and only one in Santorini on April 16 with only 312 passengers.
One more thing to consider is that it is the week before Easter. Might one island be less busy the days leading up to Holy Thursday and Good Friday? Our plan is to arrive back in Athens on Thursday night for our flight back to the US on Good Friday. Lots of moving parts and things to consider for first timers to Greece and we appreciate any advice.
