Help with Greece Itinerary (1 week)

Hello Friends!

Another fellow traveler looking for some help. I am heading to Turkey and Greece in the fall, and was hoping to get some help with the Greek segment of the trip.

For context: I am elderly but in very good shape physically. I have no interest in beaches, swimming, and would prefer not to add to the tourist congestion on the island of Santorini, leaving it to those who truly want to be there. I am interested in history, architecture, museums, etc. Also, I am not planning on renting a car.

I was thinking of spending the first 2-3 days in Athens, then going to Meteora for 2 days, and then perhaps from Meteora to Delphi for 1-2 days, and then back to Athens (or should Delphi be a side trip from Athens? At three hours one way, looks a bit long). How does that sound?

I would be grateful for your advice!

There are escorted bus tours several of them for 4 to 5 days. Many will include Delphi and Meteora. Just google escorted bus tours from Athens. You will have lots to choose from. You will need to be in Athens the day before the tour and then have Athens at the end for your next flight. You probably should consider extending you trip by a day or two to have sufficient time to thoroughly visit Athens at the end.

There is no direct public transport between Delphi and the Meteora (by bus, if you are lucky with the timetable it is at least two bus changes and a 6 hour journey).
Without a rental car if you want to go to both places by your own in such a short time you will have to return to Athens between the two.

With the little time you have, the best option from a transport point of view is to follow Stanbr's advice and find a travel agency.
If you bear the imposed timing of organized trips here is another example:

Meteora and Delphi are naturally combined out of Athens.

Rhodes sounds like the perfect island for you both stylistically and geographically.
