We will be exploring Crete by car in late September and spending the last few days in Chania. We’ll already have been to Knossos Palace, Archanes, Matala, Frangokastello, Chora Sfakion, Rethymno, Paleochora and spots along the way. Help with planning driving routes for the final stretch would be most appreciated:
*scenic route from Paleochora to Chania
*a day drive (possibly two) through the mountain villages near Chania.

Google maps seems good; there will be no cell service on some roads. Hotels will have local info. On our 3rd trip to Crete (May 2025) we decided not to drive around. We met 2 couples at our hotel (Chania ) with a car who didn’t see Knossos because they couldn’t find parking. Just be aware that there are serious mountain drives in Crete ie lots of sharp curves and fast local drivers in cars, lorries, etc. Check out in advance where you are supposed to park in towns, cities. Have fun!
Thank you @ LeighS. Yes, we will use Google maps and Apple Car Play to navigate. But we are struggling to come up with a plan for visiting the villages of Apokoronas, in one day—or possibly two, and are hoping for some experienced based advice. Would also welcome advice on the most scenic route from Paleochora to Chania.
