Heatwave in Athens - Acropolis closed during the afternoon

Due to a heatwave (43°C / 110F) the Acropolis is closed today June 12 and will probably be closed tomorrow between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.

For people who have reserved tickets during these hours, they will be able to use them between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Just like last year and given the weather forecasts it is possible that other days in the coming days/week will be impacted by the heatwaves.

Thanks for posting this caution, JoLui. Even if some of our community isn't planning of visiting today or tomorrow, it's a valuable heads-up that the same could happen on other days of scorching temps.

I vividly remember a brutally hot day at the Acropolis back in the 1970's, and attending to a member of our group so ill from the heat that they were on the verge of passing out.

I was on a tour of the Acropolis two years ago, also in June and although it was not quite as hot as today (and there were no heat advisories in effect), it was still quite hot and we had one young teenager who did blackout very briefly (couple of seconds maybe). I felt bad for her, she couldn't complete the rest of the tour to the top, but thankfully she seemed to recover after resting for a little bit and drinking some liquids. Moral of the story, the heat is no joke.

Just to clarify that this heat wave is not only in the Athens region, the islands and Peloponnese are also impacted.

For tomorrow in Nafplio: 44° C (112F) expected, and 30° C (86F) at midnight
