Has anyone stayed at Domes Zeen Chania in Crete?

This hotel came recommended by a friend who stayed there in Sept of 2023. She loved her room and the resort. I've read a few reviews on TA that there are alot of kids (there wasn't when she was there) and cats roaming the property (she said they weren't bothersome. We know it's a 20 minute or so walk to old town- which is fine with us. We will probably rent a car after a day or two to explore- hotel has free parking. I'm also looking at Elia Palatino and a few others recommended here, some not available for our dates. A room with a few of the water is a must.

In early October 2019, we stayed at the Elia Palatino, with a room and balcony overlooking the harbor and the Venetian lighthouse. The breakfast was outstanding, and it was truly a fantastic setting, although a disco across the harbor had a loud, thumping bass that covet used well into the night. That was much less pleasant, and you might want to inquire if that’s still present.

We’d had a car for three weeks, starting two days after we first arrived in Iraklio, and Hania (aka Chania) was our final stay. Trying to drive to the hotel was a major pain, with one-way streets winding through downtown, before we reached the harbor area and ditched the car to be collected by the rental company. Unless you’re driving to sights on daytrips from Hania while staying in Hania, avoid having a car until you’re finished with Hania. Depending on where in the city you’re staying, having a car there (even if the parking is free) would be more of a problem than a benefit.
