Guided tour at the Acropolis

I usually prefer to see sites independently but at a site like the Acropolis I am wondering if I will be missing a lot by not taking a guided tour

I highly recommend a tour guide for the Acropolis. The history is so vast, and the mythology so deep, having a guide is a boon. I was so impressed last summer with the tour guide we had there. She was able to personalize the experience as she learned what our interests were from our questions. It made the visit even more special. I do, generally, love a tour guide and the ones we found in Greece were richly conversant & dynamic.

We really enjoyed the Athens Walks tour of the Acropolis. We chose a 2 hour morning tour and our guide was outstanding. It was definitely a highlight of our time in Athens. We would recommend a guided tour!

I actually had the same question as Charley. I have a decent background in art hist/arch but I think we could benefit from a guided tour of The Acropolis. We would appreciate some suggestions to favorite guides? They have to be licensed to go through the Acropolis, right? I looked up the the guides in RS latest ed for Greece and several of the guides were not found on the Licensed Guide site--does it matter? It's a bit confusing. Thanks in advance for suggestions.
