Guide: Kavala Greece (Phillipi)

We will be in port in Kavala for one day. November 4. Does anyone know an excellent English speaking guide? And contact info if possible.
Keep on Traveling!

Few regulars on this forum deal with locations as obscure as Kavala... it's on the farthest-east point of Greece (Macedonia), almost in Turkey. You might have some luck in Trip Advisor... or better yet, one of the Cruise Forrums -- Cruise Critics?

I don't know of any guides but there are a few cool sites in the area, most of them important to early Christianity. Particularly the ruins of Philippi, which are a 10-15 minute drive outside of town. Yes, the Philippi of the New Testament, where the Apostle Paul lived for a time and wrote letters to. There was also a massive battle there in the first century BC between Octavian Caesar, Mark Antony, and Brutus.

There's a church near the ruins with the Baptistery of Lydia, which is the site of the first european conversion to Christianity. The chapel inside is absolutely gorgeous, and has great acoustics if you like to sing and no one is there.

In Kavala proper not far from the harbor there's also a bit of the old Via Egnatia (the ancient roman road) that is very well preserved.

I can't recommend any restaurants in town because I haven't been there in like 15 years lol. Anyway it's a beautiful place, I am super envious
