Hello travelers, we'll be spending a week in Greece at the very end of winter/ beginning of spring. We were thinking of dividing our time between Athens and Hydra. Does anyone know if the weather conditions for the ferries are generally OK by that late in winter or would it be better to fly to Santorini instead of ferrying to Hydra? Thanks for any advice!
Weather conditions are unpredictable at that time of year for ferries as well as for planes. I've seen both being canceled.
That is a very off-season time you have chosen, and I don't expect much to be open on Santorini. I haven't been to Hydra. I would assume that it might be less of a risk because it's closer to the mainland.
I have described our own Greek island winter experience here, so you may want to look into that thread.

The hydrofoil to Hydra was running fine last week, but as Anna says there are no guarantees. She’s also right that Santorini will be very quiet in late February.
Have you considered Nafplio on the Peloponnese? A beautiful town, as many here will attest, with good access to sites and easily reachable from Athens.
