Greek island hopping

We have enjoyed Santorini, Crete, Patmos, and Rhodes and would like to explore other islands such as Ikaria. Is it possible to take ferries to explore some of the less visited islands? What islands are not to be missed? Thanks!

I think you can take local boats to nearby islands. Crete is huge and I am sure that there are such services to more remote beaches.

Ikaria is almost 8 hours by ferry from Piraeus.
From Athens there are also flights to Ikaria with Sky Express or Olympic.

Ikaria has 2 ports. Edvilos to the North and Agios Kirykos to the South
By ferry, the closest islands with a direct connection are Patmos (which you have already visited), Samos, Fourni (or Fournoi) and Syros, the capital of the Cyclades.

The least known of the four and the closest is probably Fourni. To my knowledge, from Ikaria there are no other short trips possible

I think that a mix between Ikaria and Fourni with a visit to Thimena, its tiny neighboring island, could be the opportunity for an interesting trip of around ten days. You could add Samos if you have a few more days.

But it all depends on the time of year and the frequency of ferry connections and what you want to do/see.

If we plan a trip for April, will the weather be good and the water relatively smooth for ferry trips?
Thanks!
