Greek island connection

Hello.. I will be traveling from Istanbul to Sifnos at the end of May. I’d like to fly to Milos out of Athens then take the 5:30 ferry to Milos ( last one of the day as of now). The issue is that the flight lands in Milos at 4:25 and the ferry leaves at 5:30. I am completely unfamiliar with how quickly unbosrding and luggage and travel to the port at Milos takes, and with how lenient the ferries are with boarding time ( this is a Sea Jets). Is this a reasonable amount of time to make the ferry or shall I look for a different connection on another island? There is an earlier flight out of Athens but that leaves me with an hour and a half in customs at the Athens airport , which I don’t feel is long enough flying in from Turkey. And and all advice is welcome! Thank you.

The Seajets ferries from Milos to Sifnos (those at 5:30 p.m.) are alternatively the small Superjet or Superjet 2 which travel in summer in the Cyclades islands all day long. There is a good chance that by mid-afternoon they will no longer be on time.

Regarding the travel time from the airport to the port it's not even 15 minutes by taxi. So if your flight to Milos is on time it should be ok.

The Milos airport is a very small building, you don't say if you have checked luggage, in any case try to get out of the airport quickly to take a taxi.

Thank you! Yes we will have checked luggage . Hmmmm.. if the ferry will let us on close to departure time I feel like we should be able to make it . Thanks again for responding.

See the Seajets ferry itinerary below:

Before arriving in Milos at 5:10 p.m. and leaving at 5:30 p.m. it will have been a long journey with 9 ports of call.

If you want to follow it in real time on the day of your flight you can use marinetraffic (below the Superjet tracking) and compare with the planned schedule

Have you looked at connecting to Sifnos through Paros instead of Milos? I know Paros has an airport, and ferries to Sifnos. Without dates I couldn’t check the schedules.

Good suggestion from Charlene if you can fly to Paros instead of Milos.

Late May Seajets has scheduled a daily ferry 18:55 Paros→19:20 Sifnos.

And in Paros there is a better bus service from the airport to the port (in addition to taxi)

Yes I think that’s what we will do! Do you think there will be additional ferries added to the schedule?

There should be the Artemis ferry from Hellenic Seaways which also has an intracycladic route only 2 times a week. Its schedule in May will not be published until April I think. And whether it is for a Milos→Sifnos or a Paros→Sifnos its schedule will be probably too early in the day for you.

Your main concern is that you have flights too late in the day whether it is to Milos or Paros.
If you could get a flight to Milos 3 or 4 hours earlier you would have plenty of ferries to Sifnos

There are some flights Istanbul → Athens arriving in Athens in the morning.
This would be your best option that would solve all your schedule problems

Yes.. unfortunately the easy flights out of Istanbul only give us one and a half hours in Athens to clear customs, etc. There is a 4:30 am flight but that’s a little early for me….,thank you!
