Hi all! My husband and I are planning a trip to Greece for spring 2025. He can't eat gluten or dairy. Had anyone traveled in Greece with these dietary restrictions? Were there certain islands or cities that were "better" at accommodating these restrictions? Thank you!
The only dairy that appeared regularly was the feta on the salads at every meal (easy to ask for it to be left off or served on the side) and tzatziki at every breakfast buffet. Most of the food was meat, fish and seafood, and vegetables. Butter isn't generally used in cooking - olive oil is plentiful and much better. Many appetizers are made with flaky dough and or cheese, again easy to avoid them. I don't think you'll have any difficulties anywhere, though you may not find gluten-free pastas, breads, baked goods and such.
I don't eat meat or seafood and had no issues explaining that to wait staff.
Hello I have traveled to Greece and have gluten sensitivity. While there will be many things like breads, cheeses, yogurt that your husband will avoid, there are so many things that should be fine, like vegetables, fresh fish, grilled meats, fruits. I found that some grocery stores do have a gluten free section so you can buy snacks like rice crackers to have on hand.
There is typically someone in stores or restaurants that speaks English that you can perhaps ask specific questions.
Personally, I would not plan your trip around the dietary restrictions. I think you will be fine just about anywhere.
Feel free to send a private message if you’d like to discuss further. Have a wonderful time!
You should find plenty of fruit, salads, vegetables dishes I don’t eat that either and I’ve had no problems
