Hi
I'm traveling in late may with my adult son (28) and am considering flying from London to an island - thinking Mykonos - for 4 days and then back to Athens for 2 days before flying back to the US. I'm reading so many mixed reviews about Mykonos and would welcome guidance on alternative islands and hotel recommendations.
My son is into greek mythology, we are both foodies and I enjoy. yoga and the outdoors.
Any advice or guidance is soooo appreciated!!!

Mykonos is known as the party/nightlife island of Greece.
While slightly touristy, I would suggest Santorini over Mykonos but also consider Crete.
If you want mythology, you'll find more on the mainland. Perhaps add one day to Athens and take a day trip to Delphi.
Wonderful Greek food is easy to find almost anywhere.
As Frank says, Mykonos is a destination mainly appreciated for its nightlife, nightclubs on the beaches, DJ sets in bars, etc. It is also one of the most expensive places in Europe to go on vacation.
Instead choose an island like Tinos, Naxos, Sifnos, Paros or Amorgos or one of the 20 other visitable islands in the Cyclades

After much research and deliberation I'm leaning towards Santorini as it seems like a must see. I had been discouraged about going there as it was more for couples but seems it's for everyone and quite lovely.
With that being said - please feel free to share your thoughts. I love how knowledgable folks in the forum are.

I am traveling with my Adult son (24) in March. My understanding is the islands are still pretty sleepy until mid-April/May. We don't mind quiet but wondering which islands will have the most hotels and restaurants open. Suggestions for the best Cyclades islands in March? Santorini and Crete are options but would love advice.

Crete is very large with lots to see. Base yourself in Chania or Rethmonon. Both have old town areas and are active all year long. Our favourite is Chania'
