Yes - I know very simple, very general. At present I have the Rick Steves' Greece tour reserved in March. Unusual for me - still not sure. Just looking for input - what did / did not work for others. Must commit - or cut bait in the next two weeks. My interests are varied, just curious. Starts and ends in Athens. Have been on a couple of his tours - most pleased. Thank you. We did that tour 2 years ago and we still rave about it. Our guide was amazing, the food on the entire trip was beyond delicious, the sights were incredible. Everywhere we went was a wow moment. For us, it was probably the best tour we have been on, and we are booked for our 5th tour this Fall. Go!
We were on a RS Greece tour in March 2022. Our group was small, 20 people, probably because of the pandemic. This was a group number we enjoy, compared to the 29 people on our RS Scotland tour which was much too large.
Our guide was fantastic. His love for Greece and depth of knowledge were terrific. Everyday was fun. One of the best guides we have toured with. The sites and pace were perfect. I can't think of any way the tour could have been improved. So many unexpected fun experiences. There were a few hiccups, but the guide handled them masterfully.
The weather was cool, so we were glad we had layers. The food is great and the accommodations were above average.
We arrived two days early to see some sites that weren't included. Also consider taking the train to Meteora - a great experience. There were minimal crowds.
After the tour we flew to Naxos for four days. Very few tourists on the island, so peaceful and relaxing.
So yes, my vote is to go, but consider that your experience may be different because of the larger number people in your group.
Greece. The answer is why not. RS tour, the answer is why not. You already have been on RS tours. You are already booked.
Commit.
Why not?
We went to Greece last year with RS, our first RS tour. It was wonderful. Our primary guide and the local guides were fantastic, very knowledgable. Greek food is good! Unless you get bored by lots of antiquities I don't have a con. (but yes, there are more things than just antiquities)
There are a few "what is your favorite RS tour?" threads on the forum if you can find them. I haven't done an official count, but it always seems like Greece is mentioned most or nearly most often as favorite.
Since you've been on a couple RS tours, then you know the value of what's provided, the quality of the guides and the tour stops, the centralized hotel locations, the NO GRUMPS policy etc.
What I especially liked about this tour (which we took last year) was that the bus tour took us to places and sites that would have been nearly impossible to coordinate by public transportation in the short amount of time that the tour takes. the only way to replicate the places we visited would be to rent a car - and that's something I would like to avoid, if possible. (but having said that, after the RS Greece tour, we rented a car from Athens to visit Meteora, Greece.) I wish RS would add Meteora, Greece to their itinerary .
As you aware, the tour visits only one island, Hydra. So, if you wanted to visit other Greek islands like Santorini or Mykonos, Paros, Samos , Etc this isn't the tour for you, or you would have to DIY afterwards on a cruise? perhaps?
You should look inward to answer the question: Are you interested in visiting Greece? Are you the type of person who is going to visit the sites like Delphi and say to yourself, it's just a bunch of old ruins? Are you the type of person who looks at the Parthenon, and says "there's a nicer version in Nashville, TN? " Or I saw the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas? (editors note: Yes, I know where the Eiffel Tower is,)
If you have no interest, then why did you sign up for it? Only you can decide if a Greece tour is something you want to do.
I think your hesitancy reveals that you have already answered your own question.
Greece is pure magic. No where else is like it
