greece to Ohrid

Hello;
we're planning a summer trip (retirement gift) this that includes istanbul, the islands between greece and turkey, greece, ohrid(FYROM) and croatia.

It appears that there is no easy way- cost not prohibitive- to get from athens to ohrid.
two ways I've found so far are 1. bus and taxi (bus to thessalonika - taxi to bitola etc) and 2. plane to tirana (from athens) and bus or taxi to ohrid.
Does anyone have suggestions and/or experience with these? I am in late 60s and my partner is in her early 60s

I have no experience of this route, although my wife did the train element of the route as an inter-railer a long time ago, but it looks to me you can go by train to Skopje from Athens, changing at Thessaloniki and from Skopje by bus to Ohrid. I will first put in the link regarding the bus service.

The train service is described by the Man in seat 61 and I enclose that link below

Scroll down for the Athens to Thessaloniki and Belgrade section. The prices quoted look pretty cheap on the train.

We went to Ohrid just before the Yugoslav civil wars erupted and it was a magical place, looking across the lake to what was the then very mysterious Albanian shore.
