Greece - Santorino and/or Mykonos?

Hi-

I will be flying into Greece from Rome and staying for 7 nights during September with the following breakdown.

Santorini - 4 nights
Athens - 3 nights

Is that sufficient time for both places? Any recommendations on hotels/places to do/eat?

Is it possible to squeeze in Mykonos?

Thanks!
itchy to travel :)

Athens and Santorini is all you can do in the time you have. Adding another island will spread you too thinly.

Hopefully you can find a direct flight from Rome to Santorini. That will eliminate the need to connect in Athens.

Thank you for all the info! I've finally nailed down my days in Greece.

09/21 - 09/26

I am trying to get a flight from rome to Santorini and i don't see any direct flight! Is that possible? Don't want to lose a day traveling...I see Aegean airline has a quote of 230euros flying one stop via Athens for 4hrs 25mins. When using ITA Matrix I came up with 170 euro.

I also ready somewhere it's better to fly from Rome to athen and then ferry to Santorini but then I have to make my way back to Athens to fly out to sfo.

all input appreciated!
Thank you.

You can see Santorini very well in two days. Three days in Athens is not enough. Mykonos and nearby Delos are worth a day.

Beware, there was a ferry strike in Greece, if that happens, getting to the islands can be problematic.

The best way to see the Greek Islands is to take a cruise.

Hi
I am currently in Greece. Mykonos would be my vote because of Delos. Both places were very crowded especially Santorini if staying in Oia. Delos was amazing but the ride there was very rocky. The ferry strike was one day and is over. The ferries are very easy to use. I would much rather skip the cruise scene but that is just my opinion. The restaurant that has mentioned previously Mahn Mahn was amazing. My favorite island of this trips (Mykonos, Paros, Santorini and Crete) has been Paros. I wouldn't recommend squeezing in another island but enjoy the flavor of the one you choose and Athens. Enjoy planning.

Two days in Athens is sufficient and two or three in Santorini if you fly there. I would add a couple days in Paros or Naxos. We were in Paros and found it to be the best one. Trully Greek, non touristy and beautiful. Great beaches and villages.

If all you want to do is spend a few hours rushing around a few islands looking for the "real Greece" then take a cruise. Just don't expect to experience what any island really has to offer with such short stops ashore.

If you want to get into the rhythm of an island you need to slow down and spend a few days there. Get up early and take a stroll. Find a bakery, get some fresh-baked goodies for breakfast. Sit somewhere quiet and watch the island wake up. Go out at night for dinner and see how the Greeks enjoy their lives. I promise you, your experience will be satisfying and your memories will be beautiful.
