Greece Lefkada pre-trip ideas

We’re taking a catamaran trip for 7 days in early August. We’re trying to decide what to do a week before. Thinking about flying into Rome, driving or taking a train to Florence and then going to Bari to take the ferry to a coastal city in Albania near the border to Greece. Any other ideas? What else should we consider?

We don’t want to go to Athens when it’s so hot and crowded. We’re attracted to great food and wine- thus considering Italy for the first part of the trip.

Have you scoped out if you can actually do all of that in one week? I can see breaking up a trip to Greece with a stop in Italy, it is just that the proposal here makes me tired. No problem if you like moving that fast, but you’ll have to reassure us!
Have you been to Italy before?
If you want to just get to Greece, you could spend the week in Nafplio before the cruise.

Italy in August will be just as hot as Athens and incredibly crowded in popular towns & cities. Friends returned from Florence in October and met crowds everywhere.

Like Valadelphia, reading this itinerary makes me tired too.

Have you figured out how to get from a coastal city in Albania to Lefkada?

A plan B for getting to Lefkada from Italy is to skip Albania and take a ferry to Corfu from Bari or Brindizi (6 to 8 hours by ferry).
Then take a Sky Express flight from Corfu to Preveza (Aktion airport) , and then a car or bus to Lefkada.
It's roughly a 12-hour journey, if you're lucky.
