Greece itinerary; need advice on transportation Poros to Napflio

I am planning a 14-day trip to Turkey and Greece this summer for our family of five, including our three boys ages 15, 13, and 10. They are fairly experienced travelers, having been to Italy/Ireland/France/Peru and a few other places over the past the past four years. We love history, although the kids are just as happy going to the beach as the historical sites. Husband struggles to relax and prefers to be on the go, so I am trying to alternate between the busy days and the relaxing ones. I am looking for overall feedback on our itinerary, and particularly on getting from Poros to Napflio area (we are going to Napflio next, but is it easier to go back to Athens and get the car there? Or get a car in Napflio? How would we get from Poros to Napflio? We will have the car for the rest of the trip and need to return it to Athens).

Thank you so much for any advice. This forum has been so helpful in planning past trips!

July 7 Fly Boston to Istanbul overnight. Four nights Istanbul July 8 - 12. Time in Greece is as follows:

July 11th. Greece Day 1: fly from Istanbul to Athens. Ferry to Poros (need look at ferries), sleep Poros in Airbnb near ferry
2 Explore Poros, sleep Poros
3 Ferry to Hydra, sleep Poros
4 travel from Poros directly to Napflio somehow? Or ferry back to Athens, get rental car, drive to Napflio area? sleep Arkadia (at villa with private beach)
5 Beach day, Sleep Arkadia
6 Visit Epidavros and Mycenae? Sleep Arkadia
7 Relax, see Napflio itself, Sleep Arkadia
8 Drive to Tseria, sleep Tseria
9 Beach and/or Kardamyli, sleep Tseria
10 Drive to Athens with stop at Olympia or Delphi? Sleep apartment in Athens in Plaka neighborhood
11 See Acropolis, Sleep Athens
12 Fly home July 23

I would love to get some advice on getting from Poros to Napflio. Thank you!

Day 10, I don’t think that is realistic, but you will pas right by Nemea, and Arcocorinth en route to Athens.
I would try to squeeze in Mystras, an evocative Byzantine site.

"Arkadia (at villa with private beach)" Just a note on private beaches: they don't exist in Greece (Greek law designates coastline as a public asset)

There was a time when the only car rental company that allowed you to return the car in Athens was Pop's Car at the port of Galatas (connected to Poros by a short boat ride).

I'm not sure if that's still possible. Check with Pop's Car.

tommyk5, who knows this area well, might have another idea if he reads this thread.

Otherwise, you'll have to return to Athens by ferry and rent a car. If you have to return to Athens by ferry, instead of going to the city center or the airport, to save time you'll find rental companies at the port of Piraeus.

I agree with valadelphia; stopping in Olympia or Delphi on day 10 is rather unrealistic given the driving time from Tseria.
However, you could stop at the archaeological site of Ancient Messene, which is as good as Olympia (or even better, according to many including me ). It's about a 90-minute drive from Tseria.

A couple of years ago one of my daughters rented with pop's cars from Athens and could drop off in Galatas. So I assume it's also possible the other way round. That would make it easy to go from Poros to Nafplio without making the detour via Athens.

JeanCrete - I should have said semi-private. But previous renters said that they had the beach mostly or completely to themselves. Thanks for the clarification. Beach isn't that important to us anyway. But will be nice for a few days!

I wrote this mainly to point out that any place advertising a private beach is being deceitful. There are many beaches in Greece that you can have to yourself but none that are private (as belonging to anyone else than the Greek state i.e. everybody)
