Greece Itinerary help please

we are a family of five (older kids) traveling to Greece in the beginning of July. The flight is about 9 hours and we will have jet lag. Based on suggestions online, we are hoping to chill at an island or similar to adjust for 2 nights. We are looking for nice beaches, good food, and some fun things to do. We are open to flying or taking the ferry. Alternatively, we are considering heading to the Sounion area and exploring that area, since Temple of Poseidon is on our list of sites to see.

Our plan for the remainder of our trip is as follows:
Drive to Delphi (1- 2 nights)
Drive to Napflio (3 nights) (considering a 4th night - we are interested in kayaking to the Sunken city - Is that feasible?)
Drive to Athens (return car) - 3 nights in Athens
Fly home

I appreciate any advice and suggestions!
Thank you in advance

With only 2 nights, you'll spend half the first day getting to the island by plane or ferry, only one full day the following day starting to recover from jet lag, and then you'll have to leave the next morning to get to the airport/port to catch a flight/ferry

Before deciding on an island, add at least one more night (preferably two).

Thanks for your input. I wish we could add on an additional day, but 1-2 extra is about all we can do.

All I can say is to do your best to be able to enjoy the island for at least 2 full days, otherwise, it will involve a lot of travel and transfers for very little enjoyment. Even if you don't want to explore every nook and cranny of the island, there's no shortage of activities to do.

I don't think you'll find any normally constituted human here or anywhere else who thinks a 3-night stay on an island was too long.

The rest of your itinerary is in Athens and on the mainland. I would suggest you go to an island close by. And that gives these options:

  1. Andros. It's only a 30 minutes drive from the airport to Rafina Port and there are several ferries in the morning and the afternoon. It takes about 2 hours with the ferry to Andros. On your return you could pick up a rental car from the airport and get to Delphi.

  2. Aegina or Agistri. Upon arrival at Athens Airport get the metro or expressbus X96 to Piraeus. The metrostation is across the road (to the left of the Sofitel Hotel) from the arrivals hall exit doors. The X96 Express bus leaves from the pavement at exit door 5 of the arrivals hall. From Piraeus there are multiple ferries going from gate E8 to Aegina. Some continue to the small island of Agistri. It takes 45-60 min to Aegina depending the ferry.

Thank you for the suggestions! We looked into Aegina but will check out Andros as well.
