Greece Itinerary Assistance

We are a family of 4 with active twin 14 year-old girls arriving in Greece on July 3 and departing on July 19.

We would like any advice on the following proposed itinerary:

7/3 at 12:30 PM Arrive Athens

7/3 – 7/5 Athens ( 2 nights; depart 7/5 early – pick-up rental car at airport or hotel)

7/5 day Corinth (canal); Epidauros (Theatre); Mycenae (ruins)

7/5 - 7/7 Nafplio (2 nights)

7/7 – 7/8 Olympia

7/8 – 7/9 Zakynthos by boat (blue caves)

7/9 – 7/10 Delphi

7/10 – 7/11 Kalambaka (Meteora monasteries)

7/11 day Thermoplyae on way back to Athens; Cape Sounio – Temple of Poisedon (if time allows)

7/11 – 7/13 fly to Mykonos 7/11; (2 nights)

7/12 day Delos (day trip from Mykonos)

7/13 – 7/16 Naxos (3 nights)

7/16 – 7/19 Santorini (3 nights) — fly back to Athens; Depart Athens at 12:00 on 7/19

Thanks!

What fun! I would feel a bit uncomfortable flying from Santorini on the same day as my departure from Athens. I also think that there is alot to see in Athens historically and would want two full days there (spoken by a mom that has travelled extensive with two daughters). I think your girls will enjoy a rest in Naxos and the beach there alot.

Sure hope the 645AM flight is on time and you do not miss it.

The next flight is unlikely to get you to ATH in time for the noon flight, especially if it goes to a non-Schengen destination. ( and if you have checked baggage you are, as the saying goes, 'toast' )

You may want to give some further thought to this part of your trip

You are trying to do too much. You have 1 day in Athens really. On July 5 you have yourself going to airport to get car which is an hour away. Then you plan to see Cornith canal which is reasonable and then Mycenae and Epidavros. The later two are in different directions from Nafplio.

It also will be hot so keep that in mind. We were there in early June and went to Epidavros one morning from nafplio and Mycenae another morning. We went to the beach in the afternoon. It was about 95 each day.

Mykonos is a party island. I would spend more time on Naxos instead.

I also would not fly back from an island the same day as returning to US. We flew first to santorini and ferried to Naxos, flew to Athens and rented a car. We saved Athens for the end which works well with flying from the airport.

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts. Based upon the recommendations, I think we will reverse the itinerary and do the islands first, less time on Mykonos and more time in Athens.

If you’re cutting Mykonos to just one night, you might consider doing it as a day trip from Naxos, eliminating the need to change hotels. Add those nights to Naxos.

Thanks, good thought about Naxos.

In addition, I think our girls would appreciate the additional time so we can make it to Poseidon's Temple.
