Greece in last week of March (the week before Easter)

Hi,

I'm looking at flying into Athens then following Rick's plan of Athens, Hydra and Delphi over 7 days the last week of March 2018.

Will there be any issues with being there the week before Easter (April 1)?

Will the weather in and around Athens be pleasant? Would a quick flight to Santorini or another island be worth it?

Thanks!

No worries. The Greek Orthodox Easter is a week later, on April 8.

If you only have seven days, I would focus on two places maximum. I hope those seven days are not counting arrival and departure days because that would leave you with only five days. Depending on how badly the jetlag gets you, that may be another lost day. Take away from that another day for every transfer to another place, and that's what is left of "real" vacation days for you.

The weather can be anything in March. Be prepared for flight or ferry cancelations due to weather conditions, so if you do decide on a trip to an island, don't make your return trip last minute but leave space for unforeseen events. I'd always do Athens last so you won't get nervous about catching your return flight.

Also, be aware that many places on the islands will be closed down for the season.

I'm not sure what Rick's plan is . . . if it's a 7 day plan, it's probably too rushed. His recommended plans are usually at the pace of a tour and you just can't go as efficiently on your own or see as much. How do you get from Hydra to Delphi? They are in opposite directions from Athens. You will want to be in Athens the night before your flight out.

Weather is usually mild then, some rain, some sun, temps in 60s-70s, but weather's unpredictable.

Most tourist places start to open at Easter, so you may want to stick with places with year-round residents. I would recommend you book hotels with heating, as evenings are cold. Be prepared for cool & wet weather as well as some sunshine. In the more southerly & low-lying parts of Greece spring will be underway & the wildflowers can be wonderful.

Hello,

The weather will probably be good. Since you'll be in Greece at the end of March, beginning of April... similarly to the spring temperatures that Athens sees in March, April brings even warmer temperatures as the year goes on. The average temperature this month is 15°C (59°C), while the average low is 11°C (52°F), and the average high increases to 19°C (66°F). The beginning of April starts off with mostly sunny days, with a small chance of rain, and an average daily temperature of 13°C (55°F).

What do you mean by saying a "quick flight"? For a day trip? Most of the Greek Islands are so beautiful that you'd like to spend at least 2-3 days on each of them... However, if you just want to get a glimpse you might like going to Paros. It is small and beautiful, it belongs to the Cyclades. Santorini would be nice but 1 day is not enough in my opinion.

You could also go to Aegina, Angistri, Poros, Hydra or even Spetses that are close enough to Athens. Or even Evia.
