Greece in June Itinerary

Hi! Myself and 2 other girls will be spending 8-12 days in Greece after we graduate college. There's so much information about Greek islands and they all sound amazing, looking for help narrowing down one area to visit! (AKA Dodecanese, Ionian, Crete, Saronic, Cyclades, or Sporades)

Likely fly into Athens and spend 3 days there either in the beginning or end of the trip (was advised at the end is better), then pick 1-3 islands to explore in one area. Are willing to take ferry or fly to these islands.

We are looking for beautiful beaches, cultural/ historic sites, beautiful towns and nature scenery and authentic restaurants. Nightlife is not important and we'd rather go someplace less touristy, but still accessible so we don't loose too much time with travel.

Budget is also important, so places with cheaper options would be nice. Probably will use airbnb to find accommodation.

Thanks!

I assume after graduation means June so it won't quite be High Season so the tourist presence may not be as bad on some of the Big Name Islands and probably very enjoyable on the lesser visited islands.

Cheaper options for budget can mean different things to different people. A figure on accommodations will help as that may be the most expensive part of the trip. I've used Airbnb a few times with good results but found many more wonderful accommodations by finding it's website and dealing directly with the owner. Surprising how much better service you can get and maybe even better prices if you have a more one-on-one relationship.

With 8-12 days to spend and wanting 3 in Athens that leaves 5-9 days for islands. I wouldn't do more than two and make sure they are on the same ferry run.

Where to go is subjective. Lots of options but most people think of the Greek Islands as only the Cyclades which is understandable. They are quite beautiful and offer the classic white-washed houses with colorful trim, beaches, villages, mountains and everything you are looking.

The other groups are just as good but not as crowded, most anyway.

I've been to many in the Cyclades, Dodecanese, Northern Aegean and Crete but not the other areas. I went to Hydra for a day trip but wouldn't spend a lot of time there. All areas I went to were enjoyable and you really can't make a wrong decision. Do a bit more research on islands on your part to narrow down where you want to go and then get back for advice and recommendations.

Here's a great site for Greek Islands.
