What is temp for new years. did rome in 2017 cold but great

We’re always in Greece for Christmas and New Year and it’s really variable. To begin with it depends where you are. The north is quite a bit colder than Athens, and Crete can be warmer again.
Also it’s not that predictable from year to year. A couple of years ago we were swimming in Nafplio, but we’ve also had snow! If you’re thinking of Athens I would expect to have some nice sunny days but also some wet and cold ones. A lot of places have space heaters so it is still possible to sit and have a drink looking up at the Acropolis.
It’s a nice time of year because everywhere is quieter and there are generally things going on in the main squares.
