Will be in Athens in March with my son for one night on our way to Crete the next evening. We are
Wanting a hotel recommendation for a hotel for one night. We fly out for Crete the next evening. We are really wanting to do a Christian tour in the footsteps of Paul the day we are in Crete. Advice? Though our time is short, what Christian tour should we do? What restaurant must we eat at? Clean safe hotel near the airport? Thank you!

For an overnight stay near the hotel (going the other way, I.e. leaving Crete with an overnight connection in Athens) we stayed at the Sofitel at the airport. I highly recommend it.

From your post it appears that you are flying to Crete in the afternoon/evening the day after you arrive in Athens so you are going to have to put in some time waiting for that later flight. If that is the case it may be better to look at Avra hotel. Its in Rafina about 30 minutes from the airport. It has a shuttle service. This way you can spend your morning in Rafina which is better than hanging out at the airport.
