I and a friend (both women) will be going to Athens, Nafplio, and Crete for 2 weeks in September. She says she is interested in Crete because it's mentioned quite a lot in writings about goddess worship. Does anyone on this forum have information about any particular places of related interest on Crete?
If you go to Heraklion on Crete where most people go who visit Crete, is the Archaeological Museum that houses the Snake Goddess. You should also visit the Minoan Palace at Knossos that’s 15-minutes by taxi.
I suggest that your friend do some homework -- there is plenty online & in books about goddess-related sites & history... There have been many actual women tours in Crete, led by women, devoted to this subject... a whole week often. However, there are also day walking tours and events on this subject. Just Google Goddess worship and Ancient Crete Sites, and she'll find plenty to follow up on. I could do it here, but then I'd be a travel agent, & I'm not. I was aware during my first Crete visit, and thus found many items of great interest in both the HEraklion and Chania museum that were related to Goddess worship. The Old Minoan artifacts (seals) are evidence of their culture's goddess worship. I've studied this in classics courses I"ve audited at U of Penn. It's all available, for seekers.
