My wife and I will be in Athens in July and want to visit zakinthos. What's the best way to get there?

Fly on Sky Express if you're in a hurry, bus to Kyllini and a ferry to Zakynthos if you're not.

Just noting... if the sole reason u are going there is you saw a wonderful photo of "shipwreck beach" on your smart-phone, be warned -- you will be disappointed. Huge crowds, beach is sharpish stones, can be littered ... oversold on calendars & websites.
