Getting 5 people from airport to city center late night

Hi all,

I read that most cabs in Athens (perhaps Greece??) can only accommodate 4 people. Is this correct? We will be landing at 2am in Athens from the US and we are a family of 5. Normally, I would take the metro, but that's closed at that late hour. If it's true that cabs can only hold 4 people, then we would need 2 cabs. If that's the case, I figure it would be easier to get a car service who has a minivan.

Please tell me if I am thinking about this correctly.

You can pre-book a minivan with companies such as Welcomepickups or Athens Airport Taxis.

https://www.welcomepickups.com/athens/airport-transfer-book/

https://athensairport.taxi/

These two companies can provide an airport-Athens transfer. with minivan
The driver (who will know your flight number) will be waiting for you after the baggage carousels with a sign marked with your name.

For information, the official night time flat rate ( 1 taxi) is €55 between midnight and 5 am.

With Welcome pickups you will have an online quote, with Athens Airport Taxis you can request it by email.

I've used Welcome Pickups twice and I will use them again. On time. Clean vehicles. English speaking drivers.

They even have an app.

Hello-We just returned from Athens and I have to agree with previous responses regarding Welcome pickups. They were on time and had no issues. They even booked our return trip for us before they dropped us off at the hotel. They will be at the airport with a sign after you pickup your luggage. They even send an email prior telling you who your driver is with a picture. Would use them again when I travel.

Are there no minivans that are taxis? We are 3 adults and 2 young children and I was assuming we can just hail a minivan taxi (ones that typically seat 6-7 passengers). We land at 2:45pm and I am assuming we will be out by 4pm.

Thanks

At the airport, I don't remember ever seeing many minivans waiting in the line of taxis picking up passengers, but there certainly are.

Watch this video, and count the minivans:

So either you prefer to wait for an available minivan or you pre-book one.
It's up to you.
Also be careful not to follow proposals from drivers who would see you looking for something other than an official taxi.

The other solution is to take the bus or the metro if your destination allows it.

Welcome Pickups charges about the same as a cab since it's a fixed fare into Athens. They will be waiting for you with the propet size vehicle.

Got it. Welcome Pickups is giving me a 93 Euros quote for 5 people.

Cheaper than 2 x 55€ taxi night fare.

The dri.ver is waiting for you and everyone is in the same car

Neel -- I found where I read that taxis have a limit of 4 people. On the SantoriniDave Blog it says:
"All taxis in Greece have a strict four-passenger limit."

I am arriving in the middle of the night, so I'm likely going to spend the 93 euros for Welcome Pickups. We would normally catch the metro, but not an option at that time. You may have better luck with the taxi since you are arriving mid-day and I assume with young children you don't want to try the metro.

Good luck.

I was going to put in my vote for Welcome Pickups as well. We used them in Athens and Mykonos and they were great. Drivers were friendly, cars were clean, and they even point out landmarks to you.
