Public transportation in Athens and Thessaloniki will be disrupted for several hours on Wednesday, October 1.
Ferries will also go on strike, and possibly air traffic controllers (not yet confirmed).
I appreciate the update JoLui. I'm headed to Greece next spring and will keep an 👁️ on the political status as I get closer to departure.

General strikes happen multiple times a year. It's nothing to worry about really, unless you had plans to travel on that day

Demonstration Alert – U.S. Mission Greece (October 1, 2025)
Location: Greece
Event: Panhellenic General Strike October 1, 2025
Public and private sector employees’ unions have announced a 24-hour Panhellenic General Strike for Wednesday, October 1, 2025. Work stoppages and transportation disruptions are expected throughout Greece. Other organizations may decide to participate in the strike without prior notice. Please monitor www.apergia.gr and local media for the latest updates and check for updates to your flight information regularly.
In Athens, demonstrations related to the strike are scheduled at the Propylaia (Central Athens) at 10:30 a.m. and in Klafthmonos Square at 11:00 a.m. Additional demonstrations may take place throughout Greece during the day.
Actions to Take:
Review your travel plans.
Plan significant extra time to arrive at your destination or make your connecting flights.
Contact your airline or travel company for assistance.
Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
Monitor local media for updates.
Keep a low profile.
I am in Greece now planning on flying back home on Friday 10/3 . I appreciate any updates.
The article below discusses a work slow-down by air traffic controllers in Athens that is already in its 6th day. Short strikes are inconvenient, but so frequent that I consider them part of European travel. But I am concerned about a prolonged reduction in takeoffs and landings which could cause delays for a while. I don't have much experience with recent strikes in Greece, so I don't know how they compare to those in other countries.
I checked a flight tracker this morning (afternoon in Athens) and there were limited delays. I will be arriving in Athens on 10/18. Does this slowdown seem like something that will continue?

travel scamp:
The article above is very general - I wondered if I might be impacted by slow downs also. Thanks for posting - I would have been unaware of the possibility of disruption. I'd rather have it in mind than total surprise.....
I checked on Flightaware for my specific flights. Their flight histories don't look as bad as might be expected after reading the article. Maybe monitoring the actual departures and arrivals over the coming days/weeks would give you more info.
The air traffic aspect of the strike is now off following a late court ruling. Delays are still possible though due to the continuing go slow..
