I've been to some of those islands and agree there is good food available.

However, I've been to many other islands and parts of the mainland and for the most part have always had good to very good to excellent meals just about everywhere I've gone.

One hint is to avoid the touristy places and seek out the small, out of the way tavernas where it looks like mostly locals go.

Check out my photos of the many meals and tavernas I've been to in my travels to Greece:

Thanks. A nice article, and it’s good to fantasise!

Unfortunately, by the time we are able to go again, a lot of these places are likely to be gone. Greek friends are reporting that a lot of old favourites are closing, sadly.

acraven, thanks for bringing me back to Greece this morning! Fond memories of Naxos. We were there for a week. Agree with family owned "Elliniko" for traditional Greek cuisine. I recall the kitchen was across the street & admired the kind staff carrying our plates over. Close by was our favorite "Nostimon Hellas" for modern Greek. We ate twice in their lovely garden. We also visited the town of Apeiranthos and had an amazing Zucchini Pie at a family owned Taverna. I don't think we had a "bad meal" throughout Greece. Santorini also has wonderful old Tavernas with incredible food & views. Favorite restaurant in Athens- Mani Mani. We ate there 3 nights.

Thanks Tommy for sharing your great photos! Everything looked delicious. I miss Greece.

Crete and Raki. Way too many memories, and some lack of memory, regarding that moonshine. The best stuff was bought from street carts in re-used plastic water bottles.
