First trip abroad traveling with controlled medications to Turkey and Greece

Hi,

I take two meds Adderall for ADHD and Nuvigil for a sleep disorder. When I look on T & G websites it says they are banned meds.
Does anyone have experience with this? I leave Oct 31 and the trip is for 15 days. I am just trying to be prepared.

Thanks

I will be first to say that the typical advice on here is to just throw caution to the wind and tell you to just bring what you want, nobody checks, you'll be fine. I would ignore that advice in your case, we are not talking meds that most on here take. I would try to find some resources for traveling with Adderall specifically. There should be some within the ADHD community.

As for general advice, Bring only what you need, if you have a 30 day supply, take only 15 days worth, plus maybe 1 or 2 days. Keep it in the original container with the original label. It might be prudent (though it may mean nothing) to have your Doctor provide a letter indicating what you are prescribed, dosage, and why. It may not help, but it can not hurt, and may help.

Myself? I would cautiously take the meds to Greece...Turkey? That would cause me some concern as well, same with several other countries (Japan, Egypt, just to name a couple.)

I would agree with Pauls advice. When you arrive Athens airport you go through passport control. All they seem to be interested in is your passport with no questions about what you are bringing with you.

You might want to contact the Turkish Embassy or get on to the Turkish forum here and on Tripadviser and see if anyone familiar with Turkish customs has any experience to share.

1/ First, I would say visiting is a privilege and not a right and the first thing you do is show them the respect to follow their rules.
2/ Second, promoting illegal activity on the RS forum is a violation of the rules of the forum.
3/ The odds of you getting caught or having problems and the number of people on the forum who have done it with no problems has no relevance.
4/ I would do a bit more research, often there are ways and exceptions; write the consulate and if they write you back saying its okay and under what conditions, bring a copy of the correspondence.
5/ Sorry, dont mean to sound harsh, just concise.

You know, its not just about getting through the airport customs control point. Sure its a small probability, but if something happens to you on the street, or you need medical care, and authorities discover you in possession of something they dont want in the country, well, you might have a problem.
