Hello, Greece travelers. A friend and I are traveling to Greece for the first time from March 30 to April 15 (two and a half weeks, including Orthodox Easter. We are active seniors (over 65) and prefer not to drive but can. We are flying in and out of Athens airport and would like to visit Nafplio (3 days?), the Peloponnese (Epidavros, Mycenae, more?), Delphi, one or two Greek islands (Sifnos/Serifos in Cyclades? Saronic islands?), and Athens (3 days at the end of the trip). Does this sound reasonable or sensible?! Thanks so much!
That sounds doable. You can visit epidaurus and Mycenae while in Nafplio. I’d take the car to Nafplio and back, the driving was unremarkable (easy).
It's more or less doable. Whether or not you'll have a car can significantly change your plans on the mainland. Driving in Greece is quite simple and easy, don't make a big deal out of it. Everyone here will tell you that.
I'm so glad that for once someone here is thinking of Sifnos and Serifos instead of flying to Naxos (although the suggestion to go to Naxos should be coming soon... LOL) Stay strong! Don't let yourself be influenced!
That said, while Serifos is a good choice, little known here and thankfully forgotten, in my biased opinion, going there in early April might be difficult to appreciate fully. (I could explain why if needed.)
On the other hand, Sifnos is always a good choice regardless of the time of year. If you're only visiting Sifnos, you could spend a little more time there.
On March 30th, there's a ferry departing from Piraeus for Serifos and Sifnos at 2:15 PM. Probably too early considering your flight arrival time. The following day, there's another departure at 2:00 PM. I can already imagine the critics who have never spent a night in Piraeus just to catch a ferry, claiming you’re wasting your time. Don't listen to them!
The Saronic Gulf islands have a completely different atmosphere. Having a car would also allow you to optimize your Peloponnese-island trip without having to go back through Athens.
Regardless of the islands you choose, start with it / them ,and end your trip in the mainland and Athens, as you've planned.
