I will be in Santorini in October and am wondering if you can get unobstructed sunsets views from caldera-facing hotels at that time of year in either Fira or Oia. Or do the off-shore islands block it?

We were in Oia late September for four nights and there no sunsets worth mentioning.

Not from the caldera-facing hotels. They look southward. There are a few that do face westward and from them the sunset view is not blocked: Oia Castle Hotel, Esperas Houses, Fanari Villas, Golden Sunset Villas, Marizan Villas, Oia's Collection, Kastro Oia Houses, Theodora Suites and Evilio Houses.
