Finikia vs Oia stay on Santorini

This is our first time in Greece (June 2025) and Santorini is a must for us, plus it allows us to fly in from Italy. There is 3 of us, the 3rd is a teenager. She really likes the idea of having caldera views and to be honest me too ;). We are only staying 2-3 nights depending on cost.

I found a nice house with a plunge pool in Finikia for a good price, but wonder if that is a little too far out to give us the experience we want. It does have views, but longer range of the sea.

If we stay in Oia, we would not have a pool and the price would be more, but we would have beautiful views of the caldera and right in town close to everything. I have 2 I am looking at. 1 we could probably afford 3 nights, but the other only 2 nights. I can't afford anything with a pool on the caldera, those are showing $1000 per night. Is it worth it so spend more to be in Oia with a view?

thoughts?
Thank you!

If I were you I would also look at the exact location of the hotel and check the restaurants easily accessible around it.
Check on Google Maps.

This area of Santorini is not my cup of tea (and Santorini in general is not either) but in Finikia, a quick search shows me prices mostly between 200€ and 400€ / night for 3 adults in mid-June.

Hello Shannon,

My name is George, and I am a Santorini resident. It’s always a balancing act between views, privacy, amenities, and space, and I completely understand your dilemma. You’re absolutely right—hotels or Airbnbs in Oia can be quite expensive, but not all options are created equal. Factors that influence the price include accessibility, location (quiet or busy), and, of course, the quality of the view.
About Finikia
Finikia is a charming village, but keep in mind that it’s about a 20-30 minute walk to Oia. While it offers a more authentic and peaceful experience, it might not provide the iconic caldera views that Oia is known for. That said, there are some excellent restaurants nearby, such as Lefkes, Meze Meze, and Krinaki, as well as the Sigalas Domain Winery.
The village itself has tiny streets designed historically to prevent intruders, meaning cars can’t access the village center—this is typical of most old villages on the island. However, some accommodations just outside Finikia, such as Santorini Secret or Elysian Retreat, offer easier car access.

Alternative Options
If you’re open to considering other areas, I’d recommend Imerovigli or Firostefani. Both locations offer amazing caldera views, are less expensive than Oia, and provide a quieter atmosphere. Staying in these areas also places you closer to other highlights of Santorini, such as volcanic beaches, museums, and wineries. You could always visit Oia for a day trip to experience its beauty without the premium cost of staying there.

While Oia is undeniably stunning, exploring other areas could offer a better balance between cost, views, and accessibility—plus, it’ll make your Santorini experience even more diverse!

P.S. i wasnt sure if i am allowed to add link to all the places but feel free to ask if you have more questions. I’d be happy to help!

Best regards,
George
