We are planning to take the ferry from the Port of piraeus in Athens to naxos on Monday November 19. I have a few questions and could really use help. 1) do I need to book a ticket online ahead of time? 2) the ferry leaves at 7 am. Hiw far ahead of departure do I need to be at the Port? 3) am I correct that the green line of the subway goes to the Port and starts running at 5 am? 4) once you arrive at the Port how do you find your dock? I have heard it is very confusing at the Port. 5) I have heard ferries can cancel due to rough seas. Does that happen often at this time of year and how would I know my ferry cancelled. Thanks
1) No. 2) If you have your ticket in hand, 20 minutes is sufficient. It's a Blue Star Ferry and you will find tickets for sale in Central Athens. If you want to buy your ticket at the port get there 40 minutes ahead of time. The ticket office is near the Metro Station and is easy to locate. 3) Yes. 4) Blue Star ferry docks are very near the Metro Station. 5) Not often. It's very unlikely because it's a very large and stable ship. If it's cancelled they will tell you at the port ticket office or as you attempt to board.
Sometimes, ferries are just delayed, not outright cancelled. That's more likely with smaller boats and smaller ports and docks.
