Ferry tickets - to book in advance or ?

Hi
I will be coming to Crete on 16th July and will leave for Mykonos after 6 days and then onwards to Santorini and finally Athens.
The question is do I prebook now or wait till I reach Crete as I have a 6 day window there to book tickets

Again if I prebook, are Atkina, Amphitrion or any other agencies at the Athens airport open for ticket collection at midnight as I would be landing at 12.30 am and flying early morning to Crete

July and August are very busy for the ferry companies. Some of the ferries leaving from Crete that go to Santorini and Mykonos are small, so it's best to book in advance. Amphitrion is open 24/7. Cash only, no CCs.

Are you aware that if you go to Mykonos before Santorini you will be stopping in Santorini before you get to Mykonos, meaning you must backtrack to spend time on Santorini after Mykonos?

Thanks yes... The rationale being mykonos is party central.. So can have some relaxing days in Santorini before heading back home

Santorini also has a very lively party atmosphere in July. Combine that with all the cruise ships coming and going and you will be challenged to find somewhere to relax. I hope you have booked your hotels already. If not you will find it difficult to find available rooms for July.

Sameer,

You might consider using one of the Greek travel agencies listed on the excellent www.greecetravel.com website to book all Ferry tickets and transfers (and also hotels if needed). I used that method for my last trip to the islands, and they provided excellent service!

We r in Greece now on the islands. We have been using a local agency for island travel and they have been booking ferries for us just a few days in advance. With the ongoing monetary crisis I think that is the best way to do it as some ferries have changed scheduled at the last moments and strikes threatened.

Thanks yeah I have prebooked hotels way back in May. Listening to your advice I have prebooked ferry tickets for the Crete to Mykonos leg from Aktina travels and will book the others once I reach there asI will have quite a few days of buffer with me.
