Do we need to book the ferry (To Andros) in advance for a May trip? If so, how far in advance?

We go to Andros fairly often and I don't think you would have a problem getting a ticket on the day.
On most days the only boat is an early morning one and so we stay overnight in Rafina. In that case we generally buy tickets the evening before, but just so that we can have more time over breakfast in the morning ;-)
There is generally an evening boat on Fridays but even then I don't think you'd need to book in advance in May.

Nearly always, getting your tickets the day before works just fine. The only catch is if you hit some holiday, but you seem to be clear of any in May.
