Ferry Questions/Suggestions?

Hi,

Looking for ferry suggestions, we are working with Fantasy Travel and when I tell her we all get seasick( as I have read don't take fast ferries here,) she keeps putting us on a fast ferry. I am looking for advice on which ferry service we should take from Mykonos to Athens, (Piraeus port)maybe only the fast ferry are available as I understand its bout 3 1/2 -4 hrs on a fast ferry. Can someone recommend which ferry service offers open air ferry service in Oct from Mykonos to Athens? When I did view a ferry website it was bewildering with the options,3-4 different companies, Seat Economy, Airtype seat, VIP etc, love to hear your recommendations?

Thank you.

you can book the ferries yourself, it's super easy. we will be doing Athens to Mykonos route on Hellenic Seaways, I booked all VIP seats, you can print the tickets from home as well, so you don't have to do it there.

Why not fly? That avoids the motion sickness issue and is faster. It is not that much more expensive and well worth it in my book.

There are just 2 fast ferries to avoid, both part of the Sea Jets fleet: SuperJet and SeaJet2. If the seas are at all rough they will bob in the water like corks. The larger Sea Jets ferries are highspeed but are quite large and very stable. The two ferry companies with large and stable open-air passenger/car ferries are Blue Star Ferries and Hellenic Seaways. Economy class is for the first-come-first-served seating on deck and in certain inside lounge areas. Aircraft-type seating is in separate lounges. These seats are reserved so no one can steal it from you if you get up and leave for a stroll around the ship or go get something to eat. These seats also recline so you can relax. VIP seating is a bit more luxurious in separate lounges and there's a wait staff to cater to your needs. Private cabins are also available on these larger ships.

Thanks again the info supplied was very helpful . I was able to book ferry on Bluestar from Santorini to Naxos open air, not expensive very easy. But when I try to follow your advice for Naxos to Santorini all I can find is SeaJets Fast Ferry,( ugh seasickness) no slow ferry options and it's ridiculously expensive for a 20 minute ferry at $60 -$70 each, is there another ferry option?

go to greekferries.gr and put in all the info, all ferries servicing that route will come up. you can go to their website directly and book it. the price sounds right, as Seajets are the fastest ferries to service between the cyclades. if anyone know anything more they can add to this.

Don't know why you're not finding it, but there's a daily Blue Star open deck ferry originating in Athens/Piraeus that will take you from Naxos to Santorini, leaving at 1pm. It's the same one that takes you to Naxos from Santorini. After it reaches Santorini it turns around at 3:30 and stops again at Naxos before going on to other islands on the way back to Athens/Piraeus. This Blue Star ferry has been operating on this route for years and years.
