Ferry Questions?

I have a couple questions about the ferries in Greece.

  1. How early should I arrive before the boat departs?

    • I will be in Santorini going to Paros, (which leaves at 1530) then the next day Paros to Athens (which leaves at 1915). I will also be buying tickets most likely that day. Unless there is a big advantage to buying them ahead of sailing.
    • I will be staying in a hotel at Fira.
  2. I will be traveling on May 1st, and wonder if there are going to be any issues with May Day travel?

Generally you should arrive 30 minutes before the ship sails.
You can buy ferry tickets at any travel agent so find one a day or so before you depart.
The travel agent will be aware of any strike action that might affect the ferries. Thats why its a good idea to check in with them before your day of departure.

So should I just skip Paros and stay on Santorini for the night of the 30th and then fly to Athens on 5/1?

Good call Sati. I have booked a flight from Paros to Athens. It was under $25 for the flight and it included one checked bag!!! And it leaves me more time in Paros and gets me to Athens earlier. Thanks for the push to get the flight.

Hi there,

You might wanna check out this Greek Island Hopping pass , you could also get an e-ticket if want no hassle regarding the printing of the tickets or having to get earlier to the kiosk to get them before boarding ;)

In Fira you could check out Nissos Thira

May 1st shouldn't be a problem for transportation, make sure you have purchased everything you need the day before.
