Ferry from Chania to Piraeus & Getting from Hydra to Nafplio

I'm considering taking the overnight ferry from Chania to Piraeus. Even with getting a LUX double cabin, the price is competitive with flying on Aegean for the two of us. We would leave at 21:00 and arrive at 06:00. The date would be 25/26 October. Has anyone ever done this?

I'm also looking at taking the ferry from Hydra to Poros and then catching a bus to go from Poros to Nafplio. The info I've found for doing that is pretty vague. The date would be 29 October. Has anyone ever done it?

Any and all info or opinions on these options will be greatly appreciated.

I have slept well on overnight ferries when I had a berth or cabin booked (but not well when sleeping just in seats). You may have to wait until August or September to see late October ferry schedules. Bus schedules can also be difficult to pin down in advance in most of Greece, so try to be patient and flexible. To/from Nafplio, bus info is available at www.ktel-argolidas.gr.

We tried to do Poros to Nafplio by bus a few years ago in December but couldn't make it work and ended up getting a taxi.

However the Argolid bus timetable does now claim that such a bus exists twice a day on weekdays. You need to get it from Galatas which is the mainland side of a narrow channel from Poros, and hence a 10 minute bus ride across.

The relevant timetable is here

Clicking on routes says that the journey takes an hour and three quarters.

Thanks for your info, Alan. I do have that schedule and have been trying to work the ferry schedule around it. Was that taxi from Galatas to Nafplio? Do you remember how much it cost?

Lo

I'm afraid I can't remember but I don't think it would be much good if I could. Taxi prices have risen considerably over the last couple of years.

Yes it was from Galatas. I think you'll have to cross whatever you do.

It might be worth contacting a taxi company in Nafplio direct. These are reasonable

Have a great trip. We are currently planning to be in Nafplio for a couple of weeks over Christmas and New Year.
