ferries from thessoloniki to the greek islands

You may not find any information on those sites I fear. I have looked. I have been trying to nail down the ferries from Thessaloniki for a month or more now for Aug. When I get in touch with anyone I get the answer "we don't know " You can see timetable from VOLOS to the Sporades however. One frustrating thing with many sites is they initially show the ferries, but as you go deeper into the site you eventually get the message that they are not running.

Now I was looking for ferries to the Sporades. Which are the closest Islands to Thessaloniki.

What I have learned is this: Thessaloniki based ferries are up in the air.
Reliable ferry service to the Sporades leaves from VOLOS (on the mainland)
If Ferries resume from Thessaloniki it will be from a city nearby.

Now all of this may change by the time summer rolls around. I have contented myself with just waiting and checking again in about a month. Also contact your hotel there and see if they can tell you about the ferries. Life is more or less dictated by ferry schedule in the islands. they should have a good handle on it.

OP Ellen; I found some information on 2018 ferries. Here is the link. Ferries did go from Thessaloniki to the Sporades Last year but this year it is still up in the air.

I think to answer your question more directly, it appears that there are ferries to some islands near Thessoloniki, but if you are thinking ferries to the Cyclades (Mykonos, Naxos, Santorini) or Eastern islands, then your best bet is to take the train to Athens and depart from Piraeus or Rafina.
