While I almost always recommend 1st George beach area of Naxos (because it is part of Naxos town and all transportation routes are centered there) I have only visited in May and June and September before and after the main tourist season is over that may not be a great suggestion if you do not like crowds. Instead I would look at Plaka beach. Its 7 km from Naxos town and is part of a several kilometre stretch of good beaches including Agia Anna a nice villge and ag Prokopious a larger village. Plaka has no village but a string or nice newer hotels and tavernas that provide service for the long sandy beach.
We always stay at three brothers which is well situated about half way along the beach.
Bus transportation to Naxos town is regular twice an hour in high season once an hour in shoulder. No need for a car rental until you plan to explore the island. Even then you can take a round the island bus tour or look for a private guide. Last trip we used Philema Food Tours which was amazing. We toured a goat farm that made cheese and we gt to help with the cheese making that day. also had a farm lunch with unlimited home made wine. the only way to stop having your win glass filed up is to stop drinking with wine still in the glass. The second stop was at a winery where we had a very generous tasting. This is an exceptional tour.
