Favorite memory of Athens

I'm heading to Greece, Peloponnese and a couple islands in May. My first trip. Would like to hear of your most memorable, magical moment in Greece.

I climbed up on Mars Hill in the shadow of the Acropolis and reread Paul’s famous speech he gave there. Very exciting to walk where he once walked.

Akrotiri in Santorini, having dinner ovelooking the Caldera at sunset at Oia, standing in the middle of the Acropolis taking in the history, overwhelmed by the view at Delphi, and the food everywhere.

My husband and I climbed to the top of Philopappos Hill for views of the Acropolis at dusk on a comfortable early October evening. The light, both natural and artificial, was really magical. There were a number of young couples in love around us making it even more romantic I suppose.

We also took the funicular to the top of Lycabettus Hill and had very few people competing with us for the best Acropolis photo opps.

It's hard to choose our favorite climb - I also made it to the top of Monemvasia, Mystras, etc.

Sunset from the path to the Church of Panagia on Folegandros. The path is stones, well paved, shallow steps, about 400 or so steps to the church.

One of my favorite places in Greece is the Byzantine ruins of Mystras. I love this place. There is an upper town and lower town spread across a mountainside. The Upper Town consists of castle ruins, Agia Sofia, a small palace and another church. The Lower Town is the village with more churches, monasteries, palace ruins, homes. etc. Think of ancient paintings, frescoes, and mosaic floors in the churches and monasteries. Just beautiful! Mystras is located in the Peloponnese, about 1.5 hours from Nafplio.

Sitting at the top of the stadium at ancient Epidaurus!

Are you going to Naxos? Rent a car for a day to explore the mountain towns and fishing villages. Eat delicious fresh fish and seafood.

If you are going to Santorini, be sure to rent a car for a day to explore the island, such as Akrotiri, Red Beach, the Akrotiri Lighthouse, and Black Sand Beach at Perissa.

Walking in the ancient Agora. It is a favorite because there were very, very few people in the entire area, and we could wander about slowly and really appreciate the history and beauty of the place.

What did you have on Tuesday?....

Magical moments:
Seeing Acropolis for first time at night.
Waterfront dinner in Monemvasia from the shore watching the sunset on the "Rock" and the fishing boats putting by.
Waterfront dinner in Kardamyli ( again just before sunset)
